To insure your project files are
processed in the most efficient manner, the following guidelines are provided
for submitting artwork.
ACCEPTABLE FILE FORMATS 1. PREFERRED VECTOR FILES
*.ai (Adobe
Illustrator). Convert all text to "outlines". *.eps (Encapsulated Postscript). Convert
all text to "paths". *.pdf (Adobe Portable Document)
2. PREFERRED RASTER IMAGE FILES *.tiff *.psd (Adobe Photoshop)
*.jpeg (or
*.jpg)
Please save at 300 dpi or higher. Lesser quality is acceptable
when providing the image merely as an example.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT document files, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS
Word, or MS Publisher
CONVERTING
FONTS TO OUTLINES Text can
be converted to curves (paths) in some graphics programs. This will prevent
upload errors that result when fonts are not embedded in your file and insure
that your text will print clearly.
WITH
ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR 1.
Select all text 2.
Click Type Menu>Type>Create Outlines 3. Text now has a blue outline
4. Save a copy and
re-upload
DEFINITIONS VECTOR GRAPHICS are non-image files made up of lines and curves
which define geometric shapes or objects called vectors. This type of artwork
is "resolution independent" which means that the artwork can be scaled to any
size without losing detail.
RASTER IMAGES are image files which use a grid of tiny squares
called pixels. Each pixel is assigned a color and location. This type of
artwork is "resolution dependent" which means that the image is better with
more pixels (higher resolution). Output size cannot be scaled larger without
losing detail (pixelation).
When
submitting image files, please use this guideline: 100% scale (full-size output): submit your
file at 300 dpi 50%
scale: submit your file at 400 dpi 25%
scale: submit your file at 600 dpi 10%
scale: submit your file at 1200 dpi
Thumbnail-size jpeg and tiff files are not high enough
resolution to be used on large prints (like a banner).
WHAT IS
RESOLUTION? Resolution refers to the number of dots per inch (dpi), or the
amount of detail the image has. Most documents prepared for upload should be
300 dpi at 100% of the final print size. Higher resolution means a more
detailed image, but it also means a larger file size and a longer upload
time.
Images found on the internet are typically at a resolution of
72 dpi. This resolution is much too low for quality printing. In addition, most
images on the web are protected by copyright laws, so we cannot recommend
images found on the web.
CMYK vs. RGB CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) are the colors used in
the printing process, whereas RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) are the colors used by
screen displays such as your monitor. Please note that JPEG files are almost
always in RGB.
Your
document should be created in CMYK mode so that the colors that you see on the
screen most closely match the final printed product. If you create your
document in RGB, the colors in your printed product may vary slightly. Many of
the bright values produced by your monitor cannot be reproduced in
print.
PMS® PANTONE COLOR
MATCHING FOR
VECTOR FILES THAT ARE DIGITALLY PRINTED Please include and indicate in your files
all PMS colors. We will do our best to match PMS colors, but our printer uses
the CMYK color system and some colors are difficult to match. Some materials
also cause color shifting which may result in slight variations. Please consult
a Pantone Color Bridge Chart for the CMYK version of the PMS color
required.
